I am helping rebuild a 53 fordson major. We have all the pieces but have now found that the block needs replaced. We have found a block that falls into proper serial numbers. (1217104-1412408). The gentleman that has the block says to ensure it is the correct block he needs to know if the tractor has a 4 bolt or 6 bolt injection pump? I have all the manuals and have looked all over the web, and I can't find any reference to a 4 or 6 bolt injection pump! What am i missing? Any insite would be great. Thanks!!

Hi,the early tractors had the Simms fuel injection pump side covers held on with 4 bolts and the later ones had 8 bolts.

The injection pumps on the later models were inclined towards the block to allow the same engine to be used in Ford Thames Trader trucks.

The block will fit anyway but you do need to check if your tractor has the oil pump Pressure Relief Valve in the pump or mounted in the timing cover, the same with the replacement engine. You can use the block with the PRV mounted in the pump in all the range from 1952 to 1964 but if it is mounted in the timing cover you can only use it on 1952 to 1955 tractors.

If you are using a complete engine to replace yours the PRV position is not important but if you are using parts to build up yours some parts will not interchange.
