Fordson 3 point hitch history

Did the engineering team that designed the 3 point hitch and hydraulic system on the 1945 Fordson E27N copy the hydraulic system of the Ford-Ferguson 9N?

I wonder how many were sold with the 3 point hitch option?

NO

The original hydraulic system & linkage was invented by the Harry Ferguson team, and first used on the Ferguson model A built by David Brown.
The Ford team in the US under Sorrenson, developed the lift to fit the Ford 9N in conjunction with the Ferguson men who went to the US to get the 9N into production.
Ferguson held the Worldwide patents on the hydraulic system and the converging lift arms. It was not available to any other company until 1958. It was copied by Ford on their 8N which resulted in the famous Law Suite that won Harry Ferguson $9 million.
The 3 point hitch used on the English built E27N was a simple hydraulic lift cylinder in a casting bolted on top of the E27N rear axle. A version made by Smiths used single lever; and twin lever lift by Varley could operate external services for loader etc. The lower 3 moint arms bolted to the drawbar frame, and the top link to a bracket on the rear axle above the pto shaft. It was a simple hydraulic lift, and gravity drop system.
Both systems were bolt-on, and could be supplied from the factory or as a dealer fitment afterwards.

Pump was driven by a shaft from the upper part of the gearbox. That drive shaft ran from the gearbox, between the drivers legs to the Hyd System which is under the seat. It was limited capacity and necessary to fit an auxillary hyd oil tank for use with a large ram eg. on a trailer etc. MTF
