Just ran across a Ford 800 with brushhog. Paint and sheet metal on both look very good, as does rubber. Steering appears tight. It may have the select-o-speed transmission which I've seen warnings about. Haven't talked to anyone yet. Can anyone tell me what else to check on this model; other model weaknesses, and a price range (tractor only). Thanks.

The "Hundred series ran from 1955 thru 1957; the
hundred and one series (601, 801 , etc.) Ran from 1957 thru 1962. An 860 would be a 172 cubic inch, "Powermaster" series. The "60" in 860, indicates a 5 spd. trany, a 3pt. lift/hitch, and a desireable "live pto". If all is well with the hydraulics and other mechanicals, this is an exceptionally fine machine. By the way, the selecto-speed model would be an 870. Happy Motoring.....

Tom,
Sounds like an 860 allright. Good tractors!
You will want to operate everything to test it. Just run everything Hydraulics , Pto, transmission ,etc. Check three point for rising or sinking. Nothing that cant be fixed but will effect the price. Worth 3000-5000 depending on location and condition.

I'm with Chris. I'm in the southeast and those things in good cosmetic shape and everything working, probably anywhere from 2,500 to 5,000 and more. Terrible cosmetics and everything working up to 4,000. Junk - 800 and less. RKS

Still haven't talked to anyone, but saw the Serial # in the daylight - it's an 860 with the shift pattern:
..... ..... 4 2 3
DWN ----- ----- --UP
..... ..... .5 1 R

Believe it is a gas burner.

yea - I know someone will nail me on this and tell me they've have 8 children and 38 grandchildren and "never had a minutes problem with their select-o-speed," but if it has one, I would break into a dead run and not stop til I ran out of breath. And, don't look back. RKS
