Saw a tractor on Youtube that the owner said had this as a transmission; what is it? What does it do? How is it different from the Sherman?

The Ford 8240 that I owned had a Funk 16 speed with 8 speed power shift transmission. Deere bought Funk Transmission in 1989. Funk builds powershift transmissions for all kinds of heavy equipment.

Funk was/is a airplane company based in Coffeyville Ks. They made Model A ford engines into aircraft engines. They did the conversion of 8Ns,They did transmissions for lots of industrial applications such as rollers and brooms they were also used in oilfield. I have a Wisconsin engine that was on mortar mixer with a Funk transmission They made the transmission used NH TR70 combine.

Funk was a company that converted pre-1965 Ford 4 cylinder tractors to 6 and 8 cylinder engines. I've never heard of a Funk transmission.

I have. They're used in the 8x30 as well as Genesis series tractors.
