I was mowing the pasture (heavy brush) yesterday when the 3rd arm would not lift the mower deck any more. It was in the dirt and smoked the clutch on my bush hog is when I noticed it wouldnt lift the mower. I disengaged the pto and drove it to the barn. I replaced the brake rod seals as they had cracked and were leaking then added oil back to the rear end / hyd reservoir till it came out of the full plug. Started tractor back up and it would lift the arms with no mower but not with the mower hooked up. Then I went to engage the pto and it would not engage till I increased rpms. After unhooking the mower again the arms would not raise at all. Any ideas of my problem? Is the pump shot? Thanks for any insight.

That could be any number of problems....

The pump could be bad. Any number of o-rings in/around the pump and valves could be bad. Could be a broken line to the PTO valve. It could be a plugged inlet strainer for the pump.
It could also be a stripped PTO spline on the PTO input shaft on the clutch pressure plate.
I guess I'd probably pull the round access plate by the PTO lever and have a look at what's turning in there or not... You should see the lower shaft turn all the time with the engine running. If it doesn't, then I'd go looking at the clutch and input shaft.
If it does turn under load (while attempting to lift), then I'd probably drain the oil lower and pull the lift cover and see what's going on.
I've also seen the flow control valve stick closed and divert all flow to sump.
However, my best guess is that the PTO shaft is stripped. That would require a new input shaft and new pressure plate.

Thanks for the reply! I will start tearing it apart tomorrow. Do you know any place I can download a manual on this tractor? I have noticed on a cold start up everything works as normal but shortly after it wont lift and the pto wont engage again.

If it's working cold and then quits that suggests everything is turning but you have a leak...
Google the manual. Something will probably turn up. If not Holland sells them.
