Hello,

I am thinking of buying a 92 Ford 4630 that runs and drives good but as I've heard alot of transmission parts have been discontinued.
I was wondering if the tractor is universal to swap an 8x2 transmission in to replace the 8x8 Synchronized Shuttle Transmission later if I have issue with it?

No, I don't believe so unless you swap the entire back half. I wouldn't get too excited about it. If it needs repair I'm sure you can scrounge the parts somewhere. Once you've had an 8x8 you won't want to go back to a crash box.

After repairing a couple of 8x8 s I love my old 8x2 crash boxes

The 8x8 is a good transmission if maintained properly and no abused
Coming from 8x2 many didn t realize the 8x8 had a oil pump with a suction screen the needs cleaned on occasion
Many of the issues were caused by lack of proper lubrication due to a plugged suction screen
The other was synchronizer failures due to aggressive shifting

I was able to find one synchronizer online for $500 is that the only real hard part to source for the transmission? As it has been discontinued?

Forward and reverse synchro is the one I hear the most issues about
I m thinking it s different from the other two, I do know there are two different synchros in those transmissions
I have a decent set of them from the salvage trans
Lack of lube in the one I salvaged caused the front cluster shaft bearing to spin in the case
The way the case is designed there s not much material in that area to bore and sleeve it back to size

The for/rev and high/low syncros are the same and the 1/2 and 3/4 are the same. I'm not sure if they're available now or not but
had been very expensive. PTO input shafts are also getting hard to come by.
