3 point hitch problems

(quoted from post at 11:41:12 01/18/23) My Ford 861, 3 point hitch will not rise. What could be the problem? The oil level is o.k. Will not rise even 1 inch. Please e-mail: [email protected]. Need suggestions soon.

A completely sheared cam follower pin will also prevent the 3pt arms from rising. Did you have to pull the 3pt control lever nearly to the top position before you received a response from the 3pt arms prior to this happening? Pull the top cover and see what you find. Top cover removal is pretty straight forward, though having a helper or a hoist is a good idea.

n BOTH Draft and Position control modes?

Try moving the 3 point lift arms up and down about 20
times

Sometimes this will get the hitch lifting again

Sounds silly but it sometimes works

(reply to post at 10:46:23 01/18/23) [/qute] I do not see any reference in the manual for a cam follower, other than for the selector lever. So what do you mean? Is it inside of the housing?

same or similar to this one that is almost worn thru.

When you remove the top cover, which includes the draft control spring assembly and lift arms, set the cover upside down on a work bench or a set of saw horses. The underside of the cover will look similar to JMOR's photo.

The New Holland p/n are as follows:
87022330 Top Cover Gasket (You will need to renew the gasket after removing top cover)
374072S Cam Follower Pin

727-2122 NAPA O-Rings. You should renew the o-rings before replacing the top cover.

There's a good how-to video that I've linked to that demystifies the top cover.

Hi Colin,
Thank you soooo much for your replies. I checked Rachel on U Tube, too. The pin and the cam are fine. I am thinking that it might be a sticky unloading valve. Maybe not? I do not know what else to check? Do you have any other ideas or helpful hints for me? Please know that I appreciate you. Thank you, Ken

Ken, I think JMOR suggested the unloader valve route early on. That is not something that I have not worked on, so you'll have to ask him about troubleshooting that. Sorry that I can't be of more help.

Colin

Hello JMOR,
Could you please give me some more advice on how to deal with/fix a stuck unloader valve? Do a just spray some WD-40 in it? Thank you, Ken

/quote]you need to remove valve (out front of cyl, after first removing plug in front of it)., Then inspect O-ring and bore. Does it feel smooth and free to move?

It does feel smooth and free. So now, the problem must be with the pump? Any other ideas?

You can follow the FO-20 and blockoff pump outlet & measure pressure.
