4600 exhaust conversion

Is it possible to just flip the manifold on a 4600 to convert
from horizontal to vertical? I will just be cutting a hole
through the hood to run a stack whether I get a true vertical
manifold or not. Just curious if it would bolt up at all. Weed
burner exhaust has to go for hay work.

Someone else just asked this question. The hole on the hood is dished to keep water off the engine. Cutting your own would work except for that. THe manifolds do not flip in as much as the fittings are different for the exhaust pipes that hook to them. Where are you at? If you happen to be near KC we need to talk.

I hope you won't cut the hood. I know it is your tractor but think it would be ignorant, and completely lacking in an aesthetic sense to cut the hood.
That hood will fit all the 3 cylinder Gas models from 1968 till they quit making gassers. I believe you could find someone to trade.
When I swapped my exhaust from vertical to horizontal I watched for well over a year for a correct hood that wasnt butchered.

You must have a vertical exhaust manifold to have vertical exhaust
4600 exhaust uses a S pipe that bolts to the manifold moving the muffler farther forward than on the previous models
A left side hood panel can be used from any 3 cylinder model of the -600 or -610 models that doesn t have a cab or plastic fuel tank
If your tractor is gas I know where a 2600 hood is in my area of Ky
I m needing a left side 4600 diesel hood panel for vertical exhaust

It looks like gas/diesel share the same manifold according to those listed on the net. Is that not true? If it is what is the
difference on the hood? Thanks as I am one with up hoping to switch to down. (gas)

Kenbob,
Yes,
65 to 75 gas and diesel use the same exhaust manifold.
Gassers use the paper air filter back on the firewall with the round access cover in the left side hood. Diesels use an oil bath air cleaner in the nose. You service it by removing the grill.
This is the hood I looked so long for. Early style vented one for a diesel.
Back in the day you could buy a plug to fit in the exhaust hole but it has long been discontinued.
Part # 60 in the diagram.
If you go to an electric supply outfit you can buy a weathertight knock out cover that fits over that hole.
Doesn't look too bad.
BlackTransAm,
I was a little sharp tongued with you.
Sorry.
If you saw how many ruined hoods I came across when looking for the one below you might understand my wrath when I hear of someone planning to chop another one.

Thanks, I forgot about the intake being different. That is a bigger hole for sure. I am not desperate to change mine but I would if it was someone close by who wanted the upflow. The fella from a few posts back checked and ups was $115 to ship, which would be x2 as I would have to ship mine back.
