Tw35 oil pressure

A friend of mine has a tw35. When he changes the engine oil it acts like it looses its prime. He fills the filters before installing them. It takes a long time to
build oil pressure when starting after the oil change. Over a minute, not just seconds. After that it has oil pressure instantly upon starting, even if it sets for
a few weeks. Any ideas?

Most likely oil pump issues, which TWs are unfortunately prone to. In short, the pump is way too big for the application and overloads the relief valve, which side loads it and causes it to hang up in the bore.

If your friend doesn't want to drop the oil pan to investigate, suggest he watches oil pressure like a hawk. If he does drop the pan and finds a worn pump, suggest that he replaces it with the smaller one for a TW5.

Thanks for the reply. We are planning on dropping the pan to investigate. I found an older post about using the smaller pump. Thats probably the route we will go.
