I just installed a new single stage clutch and pressure plate onto my for 4400 backhoe. I noticed when I torqued everything down there was 3 bolts / washers that loosened up. I believe the bolts cage the pressure plate for installation but wasn't sure if you leave them back all the way out or in. Attached are the photos thanks.

Sorry the other attached photos didn't look like it went through. The last photo has the bolt circled in red.

First off, that pressure plate looks like nothing I've ever seen before on a Ford. With that said, those
bolts sure look like caging bolts to me. I'm guessing they need to come completely out, if in fact they are
caging bolts. Might wish to check with the place you bought it from to be sure.

The pressure plate is identical too the one I removed. I bought it from yesterday s tractor.com. I asked if they had any technical help and they recommend searching the forums. I ll take some better photos but it s actually similar to a stud with a nut and washer. Once I torqued the pressure plate I noticed all 3 where loose. I can either run the nut all the way in towards the clutch or backed all the way out.

Yes the old pressure plate did have the same bolts. I did not notice the position prior to removal but with it removed the bolts were tight. I believe I am going to run them in tight and hope for the best.

I suspect those bolts adjust clutch finger height and the nuts would have been snugged down after the finger height was set by means of the bolts, at the manufacturer or rebuilder.

Are the locknuts tight now?

Once I torqued the pressure plate they were hand tight so snugged them up with a wrench. I am gonna install the engine today.

Did you at all verify that the clutch fingers are the same height?

That looks like an Auburn style clutch and those bolts are used to adjust finger height. The nut should be ran down tight to the
washer after checking finger height. Looks like the pressure plate in an Oliver 550 to me.
