4000 hydraulic filter question

I have a Baldwin bt216 for my hydraulic filter, and I m wondering if it s the correct size? It seems on the small size but I m not sure. I will replace it if under sized or not for the correct application. I got it off this site as a replacement but having doubts

I am not aware of an OEM hydraulic filter
on either model of 4000. Is the filter you
refer to on an attachment - like a loader
or backhoe maybe?
Please explain.

That s not the filter for a standard 4000
It looks to be the spin on filter used on the engine mounted hydraulic pumps used on the 3600 series
That pump could be used on some 4000 models with engine driven hyd pumps but most had axle mounted pumps with internal suction screens and cartridge style return filters

Sorry, it is a 4140 as far as i know It does have a ford 712 front end loader and 723 backhoe. The filter is tee'd in on the return lines for the backhoe and loader valve sitting in the frame rail

Since it's just for the loader and backhoe hydraulic fluid, any filter is better than none. That one looks like it might have been added by a previous owner, so whatever filter fits that head and allows good flow should be fine.

i agree, i would like to keep the filter set up, I'm just wondering if its the correct filter. I can't seem to find the right specs on it, I just want to make sure I'm getting the full flow

I do know that both the 65 4000-4100 and the 68 4000-4100 did not have a hydraulic filter on the built in systen so what do you have and where is it located?

Here's the specs for the filter and it also lists the longer part# if you think you need a bigger filter.

Thanks all- i think it actually might be factory, but I'm not an expert. In the parts diagram it does show up.. but doesn't suggest a filter.

I may try the larger filter, but it is probably alright on there since it is the return side. I just wasn't sure if it was causing an issue at all, I'm not even sure what the symptoms would be for a too small filter.
