Ford 4400 back-hoe gas to diesel swap

I recently purchased a ford 4400 back-hoe with a 735 loader frame and a 755 backhoe attachment. The backhoe came with a 3-cylinder gas engine that is frozen. I have removed the gas engine and I have 3-cylinder diesel out of a 3000 serials tractor. My question is regarding the gear on the front of the cam shaft that drives the power steering pump and the gear on the back of cam shaft that drives the hydraulic pump for the 3-point hitch. The diesel engine didn't have a power steering pump driven off the engine. If I remove the cover plate, there is a gear, and it looks like my pump will bolt in no problem. The attached photo with number 1 on it is the power steering pump I have. Will this pump work on the diesel engine? My other question is regarding the gear on the back of the cam shaft that drives the 3-point hitch pump. Is that gear the same for gas and diesel? The hydraulic pumps look identical except for how the lines bolt into the pump. Thanks for all the help. I also have a question about the front-end loader hydraulic tanks. It looks like the left and right pillars for the loader frame is the hydraulic tank. The left-hand tank has the suction filter and a drain plug at the bottom. The right had tank appears to have a drain plug, but it looks like something hit it. Is there a drain plug on the right-hand tank as well?

Yes that pump will bolt rite on. It may not have the pressure to run 4400 steering system. It can be shimmed to correct pressure. The loader uprites are reservoir and do have drain plugs, most are socket head
plugs, either hex or square. The gears are same on rear and front, gas and diesel are same.

Perfect! Thanks for the help

Must have Selecto Speed as that is where hyd pump for 3 point mounts other wise it is sump mounted in r/a center hsg.

The 3 cylinder 4000 series, including the 4400, only used the center housing mounted hydraulic pump if it had non-SOS AND independent PTO. The ones with the manual reversing transmission often had trans driven PTO and used the engine mounted pump. The ones with the auto reversing trans could never have any PTO, and sometimes those had a 3 point lift which used the engine mounted pump as well.

Ya the 4x4 power reversing kinda slipped my mind. Wasnt shure if 6x4 Manuel reversing was avaible with live shaft to drive sump mounted pump. My 4500 TLB is trans pto 6x4 Manuel reversing.

Sean and Shawn have given you good advice.
The biggest issue you will encounter will
be getting filtered air to the intake
manifold.
That and the loss of somewhere between 8
and 14 horsepower.

Does your 6x4 trans pto have axle mounted hydraulic pump or engine mounted

My 4500 has 6x4 but no pto
I installed 3 point with engine driven pump from my 4000 when we swapped out the SOS for a 8 spd

The internal gears in the gas and diesel are the same the inj pump drive gear and distributor drive gear for the gas engine

Sorry I am little confused. This is the first tractor that I have owned. I do work on construction equipment for a living. I don t have the select o speed transmission. I have the manual transmission with the 2 sticks. I am not concerned about air filtration at the moment. I have a hydraulic pump driven off the crank shaft that I believe drives the loader frame and the rear backhoe attachment. The photo of the power steering pump I attached is the same pump I removed off of my original gas engine that I am planning on installing onto the Diesel engine. The transmission were the same for both tractors. The other hydraulic pump I was referring too is on the left hand side right by the oil filter. I will attach a photo. I was under the impression it was for the 3 point hitch? If i remember correctly the 2 pumps looked identical but how the hydraulic lines connected to the pump seemed different. I was more concerned with making sure there wasn t a difference between the two gears.

Gears are the same for the hydraulic pumps
Your power steering pump will fit the diesel engine with no issues

Perfect thanks for all the help. It does have the 3 point but it s a backhoe so I most likely won t use it.
