You're not going to like this news, but that is a guide peg for the internal piston. The peg itself comes
out from the inside, and is one of the last parts to come out of that housing. Meaning pretty much a
complete disassembly of the box to replace the o-ring on that peg.

With reference to the image below, the guide peg is #41, and the leaking seal is #42. The image makes it
look like the peg comes out from the outside, but it does not. It's wider on the inside of the box.

I've seen people put silicone on the outside of the peg to try to seal it, but that is an effort in futility
because the housing and the peg are under full system pressure. I doubt even JB Weld would stop it, as much
as I'm a believer in the stuff.

If you are not careful when pulling worm shaft and piston assembly out youll be playing 52 ball pickup, not really that many but seems like it.

that s what i was afraid of. i m going to slap some JB weld on it now and see how long that lasts(if at all). does that peg spin or rotate at all?

(quoted from post at 21:10:51 12/16/22) Peg cannot spin. Let us know if the JB Weld works. I'd give it a 50/50 shot right now.

JB weld did nothing. oil blew through it within seconds. so i figured i didn t have much to lose so i MIG welded that indent solid. that took care of the leak there. but now it s pissing from the right hand side! i studied that diagram, do not see what i could have hurt??

Maybe the heat from the welding process weakened that gasket joint, although I can't see any paint
discoloration there. Regardless, pulling that cover off to replace the gasket is not a hard job.

i ll pop it off tomorrow, i just thought it was very odd! very little heat, really.

Sealing the first leak could have just allowed the pressure to get higher to where it started the second leak. That happens a lot on really old hydraulic systems. You fix the weakest point, and what was the second weakest point becomes the weakest, and so on, etc.

Just to follow up....after chasing each leak around and replacing gaskets it finally stopped leaking.
