Ford 2000 Hydraulics Mystery Part

Hi, I'm from Michigan, new to the forum but would appreciate any help. I originally posted to the R&R page but am reposting here.

I took the hydraulic lift cover off my 1968 Ford 2000 3cyl gas. I was changing the fluid and cleaning out some sludge. Also was going to replace the lift pin as my 3 pt hydraulics are touchy (not very responsive to the position contol lever). Turns out the existing pin was fine.

I found this stuck in the sludge at the bottom of the hydraulic case. I've been looking at parts diagrams but not sure what it is. Can anyone on here help identify? Thanks

Hoping the pictures come through

You are welcome! Since none of these Ford experts gave any real info on the part I am going to stick my neck out to say it may be a spare part that has been in there since it was assembled at the factory or it was dropped in there during a previous repair. To stick my neck out even more I am going to say it likely only holds the shaft in place during assembly. So in other words since your castings are bolted together that shaft ..number 26.. is not going to go anywhere.

I will stick my neck out : )

Its not a retainer I believe it to be a seal/plug.

Any part below the upper main shaft of the transmission needs to be sealed off from the hydraulic compartment to prevent fluid crossover between the trans and hydraulics.

I agree with Hobo. It is a seal for the hole that the shift rails installs through to keep the transmission fluid and rear axle/hydraulic fluid from transferring between compartments.
