What tractor do I have???

Im a novice at best but I recently bought an old tractor that has been caked in grime and is in terrible shape, but it runs and that is important. Its a diesel and from what I have learned it is most likely an 801, 860, 861 or 1801 but I cant figure out for sure which one for sure. The decals on the hood say 1801 industrial and select-o-speed. Whats left of the serial/model number on the transmission block I can read 860 on the model. The sheet metal paint scheme and egg crate grill look to be 801 type and even have the opening on the dash for the select o speed controller but the tractor has a 5 speed transmission. It currently has a front bucket on and a blade on back with the 3 point. Can anyone help me further identify what year/model it is with other info?? Thanks in advance

If it is a diesel and the transmission has "860" stamped on it you have a combination of different tractors. It would make sense that you could have the 1801 diesel that originally had the SOS that had transmission problems and someone installed the 5 speed from an 860 as a replacement transmission. 860 did not come as a diesel. HD industrial came with a cast grill and heavy frame. The light duty industrial had a non-adjustable front axle and different paint scheme otherwise looked similar to the 801. Someone more knowledgeable than me on the industrial models may have more information.

801 is the series and there are sub models of the 801. Like the 841 which has a 4 speed transmission. Then there is the 851 which is a 5 speed non live PTO. Then there is the 861 which has a 5 speed and live PTO by way of the 2 stage clutch

The 1801 and 4140 heavy industrial are very easy to identify as they has a heavy cast iron grille/nose assembly with two integral headlights at the top and a pressed steel frame rail around the engine. Don't confuse this with the 1961-1967 6000 tractor which is a larger much different tractor. All the other models have sheet metal on the front. Diesels came out in 1957. The egg crate grill definitely is 1957 to 1962 801/901, but sheet metal can be swapped to other models. Sounds like somebody swapped sheet metal from an 1801 SOS, but even then the 1801 does not have the doglegs to mount the front of the hood. Sounds like the tractor has been assembled from several different tractors since you say the transmission says 860, which would be 1955 to 1957 and did not come as a diesel. Or it is an 1801 that had a bad Select-O-Speed and somebody swapped in a transmission from an 860, which is a higher probability. Post a picture if you can.

I am trying to attach a few pictures here. Let me know your thoughts. Thanks again for all your help and input

The picture show what you have is a mutt. 2 or more tractor taken apart to make one good usable tractor

I was afraid of that. I really just want to fix the leaks and maybe down the road fix it up a bit more. I guess I will need to address each leak by part individually and go from there. If one was to restore it which model would be the most appropriate?

Your picture show it to be either a 871 or 881 which had the SOS transmission but you say it is now a 5 speed with live PTO so at some point some one took the transmission and rear end from a 861 and put it on the 801 172 engine so for the most part it is a 861 now

If it helps, here's the grill and nose cone on my 1801.
The cast iron nose weighs almost 250lbs.

Thank you so very much for all your help! I appreciate the good advice and information. I will approach the repairs and leak fixes as if it is an 861 then. Thank you very much. Have a happy new year!
