Hi,
Can anyone tell me what the letter "E" stamped into the piston crown means,is it to do with directional rotation or size?,
Peter

Size. Pistons and bores are carefully measured at assembly, each
one assigned a letter coresponding to its size. This helps the guys in
the assembly line to put big pistons into big holes, small ones into
small holes, etc. Youd likely find similar letters on the side of the
block if you stripped the paint off.

Hi Bern,
Thanks for the reply. What i am trying to find out is whether it has been rebored or not.I take it then if i find an E on the block it has not been rebored?,
Peter

Generally an oversize piston is stamped .020. .030, .040 on the top. A careful measurement with a caliper
will get you the info you need as well.
