3600 Diesel leak at stop shaft on injector pump

I inherited 1980 Ford 3600 3 cyl diesel tractor a few years ago. Except for normal maintenace it hasn't given me any issues until now. Diesel fuel is leaking (while running) from what I would call the stop / or choke shaft on top of the injector pump. I have found a seal kit, but have no idea how to go about it. I was an auto tech for many years, just never delt with a injection pumps. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. [/color:d71a5d0720]

I have not done it but also need to.
Mine is leaking in a couple of places.
It will get me by till spring when it is
warmer.
I will watch a couple/few youtube videos
before I do it.

Youtube is your fiend. keep in mind all of the other seals are over 40 years old also.
Mine leaked at the housing so I watched the videos and pulled the pump and replaced all of the seals. I'd resealed injector pumps on Olds diesels in the past so I figured I could handle it. The one thing whether you pull the pump or just the top cover is to ease the cover up and look at the spring and which holes the spring is attached to.

Use the camera on your phone to take pictures of the spring and its location on both ends. In fact, take lots of pictures of each step as you take it apart, the cost per photo is nil, the value of each photo is immense.

The stop valve shaft and the throttle shaft both have O-rigns on them that are common to have slow dripping leaks. If it is leaking out of the top of the pump i would be 90% sure that is your problem. I have
replaced them 3 times on different tractors, not a terrible job, but a tightish fit if you do not remove the pump, which I did not. You can take the top cover off, and as others have said remove the spring
internally and pop out the shafts to replace the o-rings. I just did a Ford 3910 last moth, fixed the leak. I think if the tractor sits and the o-ring dries out it is more common.

Do you have the CAV pump? There are some good youtube videos of folks rebuilding them that will help you immensely.
