Ford 2000 3cyl lift arms wont lift after cover rebuild

Bear with me here. I know enough about turning a wrench to get myself into trouble.

I bought this tractor at auction and the lift arms would only lift about 4.

Pulled the lift cover and replaced the cam follower pin as someone on this site correctly suggested it was well worn out.

Put it back together and the lift arms wont move at all. I primed the pump but cant say I was overwhelmed at the stream coming out of the pump.

Also, when I removed the large bolt from the plate on the front of the lift cover no hydraulic fluid comes out. Maybe it is not supposed to. Throwing that out there in case it means something.

Thank you.

f I follow you, the "large bolt" is a hyd plug that taps directly into the feed to lift cylinder, so if nothing there, the cyl will not lift.

Yes. It is a plug in the top of the plate you change to add
remote hydraulics.

What would cause no pressure there? I have some pressure
at the pump although I think that pump needs rebuilt.

There is something I didnt get right under there and I need
to pull the cover off to fix it but Im not sure what I am
looking for.

Thank you.

You didn't mention what tractor model and do you have the service manual? The factory service manual is remarkably handy for troubleshooting.

I do have a factory service manual. I was reading the
troubleshooting section but it wasnt making a lot of sense.
Maybe looking at it again tomorrow will give some clarity.

I mentioned the make and model in the posting title.

Thank you.

ithout a full understanding of 'how it is supposed to work", it is difficult to diagnose what isn't working as it should. Probably took me months or more to grasp it, but time has shown a couple of 'high likelihood' areas to look at. The unloader valve is a common problem, especially when tractor lift is unused for long period of time, it gets stuck and there is only low hyd pressure to move it (<100psi), no mechanical connection.. Another is the rather critical adjustment of the control valve linkage. The unloader valve gets stuck in the unload position and all the pump output just gets dumped back into the sump at a low pressure.

The photo of the unloader valve in man's fingers is of NAA, for your tractor is similar and in similar location.

JMOR, you have been very helpful today, and it is much appreciated. I split this tractor to put in a clutch, rebuilt the power steering
column and tried to rehab the lift cover. The lift cover is the only thing that did not work when I got it back together (except for the
ignition switch wiring that you sent a diagram for).

I do need to set the adjustments on the control linkage, and I will examine the unloader valve. I understand it is hard to diagnose from a
distance and I really do need to read through the troubleshooting section in the service manual.

Thank you,
Noel

ou are welcome. Glad to help/pass along what I know.

I primed the pump but cant say I was overwhelmed at the stream coming out of the pump.

Was there still any air coming out of the pump after you primed it? If it was fluid mixed with air then it probably needs to be bled some more, or it could be sucking air on the intake side, most likely at one of the o-rings at either end of the suction line.

After I rebuilt the pump on my 2000 and it still would not lift after I bled it. I rigged a clear neoprene hose to the bleed port on the pump and ran it to the fill port on the rear axle. Fluid looked clear of air while it was running but when I shut it off there were 1/2 bubbles in the hose that I couldn't see when running. I left it at fast idle for about 20 minutes and the air finally cleared. Been good ever since.

It did not seem like there was any air, but I will look closely at
that on Thursday when I get back down there.

Thank you.
