has anyone had a problem with Tach gear wearing out quickly. replaced worn gear and after a month it wore down again.

Assuming at generator?? COuld be... generator shaft is worn out and barely engaging the gear. Rare, but I have see two of these. Drive gear housing worn out? Not seen that yet. Tach cable dragging badly. Seen this maybe 10 times?? espeically if cable housing is burn from exhaust manifold. Tachometer is dragging or hanging up... Seen this more often.. you cant spin the brass button on the back side of the tach with your fingers, or it turn one time and locks...

btw.. the new gears... commonly have a drive hole that lets the tach cable slip... I have to put them in a vise and tighten them a bit. If you can grab the cable end at the back of the tach with your fingers and stop it from turning, its slipping at the tach gear due the the china crappolla syndrome.
