256/268 Ford injector pump timing marks

The 85/later 256/268 along with the 401/456 6 cylinder engines where updated to a Lucas DPS rotary inj pump that was never used on the 3 cylinder models, thus the timing gear marked 4/6
The 3/4 marked gears were used on 3/4 cylinder models with the Simms in line and Lucas DPA rotary pumps
Not sure what gear the 401 used with the Simms 6 cylinder pump

[quote="Destroked 450" thanks for the info . I feel better about it now. So according to my pic my timing
is correct?

Didn't even think of the engines with the DPS pumps. The 401 never came with the DPS, which is why the thought didn't cross my mind. I don't lump the older engines into the same family as the Powerstar/Genesis engines, even though they're similar.

The Ford pump spec card book I have shows the 7840 with 401 has six DPS pumps that engine could have. The 8240 and 8340 with 456 has eight DPS pumps listed.

A tractor I alway thought I d want was a 7840 with the 401 6 cylinder and a 12 spd trans with dual power
I don t know if the 401 would be much harder on fuel over the 304 turbo but the longer wheel base gives a better ride, plus I like the smooth sound of a 6 cylinder engine

Fuel spec is 66 CC for the 7840, 69 CC for the 8240, and 78 CC for the 8340. All three had a 2275 high speed no load spec and used the same injectors that had a new
opening spec of 4090 PSI.
