641 ??? At consignment auction

There is a tractor, listed as a gas 641, at a consignment
auction. Two questions

1. What is the button below the throttle at the back of the
side tin?

2. Is it normal to have the trailing arms mounted so
close/narrow on the front axle?

That is not a button. It is a plug in a hole that is there for the reverse handle if the tractor were equipped with the Select-O-Speed instead of the 4 or five speed. Yes, the rods are all the way in because the adjustable front axle is all the way in.

Steve,
I can answer the first one. When Ford started the SOS introduction, all tin had that button. It is the location that the PTO engagement handle is located.
A 641 would not have the handle so they just plug that hole.

(quoted from post at 09:11:43 11/30/22) Interesting. Dad's 1958 641 does not have that stamping feature and plug.

It could have been a very early one or the sheet metal was swapped from a 600 or 800.

Almost positive the early '01 tractors did not have the hole. Since the Select-O-Speed did not debut until the 1959 model year and the '01 came out in late 1957, early '01 tractors would have no need for the hole.
