8730 Shift Solenoids

Does anyone have a book or a diagram that explains what
each shift solenoid controls on an 8730 powershift? 9th to
10th is terrible and the clutch dumps no matter how slow
you release the pedal in any gear above 10. Id like to just
replace them all but Im assuming the solenoids arent
cheap

I think it would be $$$ well spent fo you to acquire the official service information for your tractor vs. throwing $$$ parts at it. In general, shift solenoids initiate the shift process and the quickness/''feel'' of the shift is determined by a separate shift valve, one or more orifices, and possibly even an accumulator or two, and available pressure. Without knowing the details of all that and how and where to check pressures you will be ''flying blind''.

I agree with wore out, get yourself a manual and troubleshoot the thing before you spend yourself into the poorhouse. The jumpy clutch pedal could be as simple as a bad speed sensor. 9-10 will always be rough no matter what you do.

Nature of the beast. Not designed to start from stop in any gear above 9. 9-10 shift will always be hard. It is a double shift-low range to high, and 9th gear to 1rst.
Through money at it if you want, but it's not going to change anything.

When you get up over 5,000 hours the Funk power shift transmissions start to get problems with the clutch pack seals, which results in slow fills. You can run tests with the onboard diagnostics to isolate the problem. Any auto or power shift transmission if it is shifting slowly is going to give "hard" shifts.

I disagree. Slow fill times are going to give soft shifts, and when it's really bad, excessive slipping. A slow fill time would be equivalent to letting the clutch out on a manual transmission very slowly.

Not true.

I had long thought that a slow shift would make for a soft shift, but a tranny guy told me that it was the opposite because if it was slow there would be a short time where the engine would be able to pick up revs before the next or selected gear engaged. The increase in RPMs would result in the hard shift.

When we bought the tractor 9 years ago everything was pretty smooth 9-10 always was the hardest shift, and I know theres nothing you can do about that because of the range shift, but its at the point where it is in neutral for about a second and a half before it slams into 10th gear. And it would always have a smooth clutch in gears above 10, especially when pushing the clutch in at 18th gear and letting the transmission downshift and speed match, you could let the clutch out and have a smooth ride but now it just about throws you out of the seat.

There's no way there's any kind of a delay as long as you say. Not even half that. Under a load the shift needs to be almost immediate or else the tractor comes to a stop if you have a plow in the ground.

I'm not really familiar with that transmission.... other than I know it's electronically controlled. So I'd say if it shifts... the solenoids probably are not bad. Diagnose it. Does it not require a calibration to establish clutch fill times? It could be that simple. I'm assuming the solenoids use PWM to control that... but again.. if thy work at all, they're probably OK. More likely a calibration issue or as Bern suggested.. a speed sensor. Get the books or someone who knows to diagnose it.

Get the service manual specifically for the transmission it has everything you could want to know.

Im going to agree I doubt the solinoids are your issue. Start with a calibration and go from there.
