Need help with a decision

Hi Guys,
I have the opportunity to get two non-running Ford tractors. One is a 960 and the other is a 961.
The fellow who owns them moved onto much larger equipment several years ago and parked the smaller tractors in a lean to shed. His cattle got into the shed and pulled all of the spark plug wires from both distributors and the tractors were then moved outside.
Both tractors were "running good" before the cows attempted to tune them up, but haven t run for several years.
The 960 is a narrow front, with good rear tires and the 961 is a wide front with pretty weathered rear tires.
If I was to use the best parts from both tractors and restore one of them, is one more desirable than the other?
What would be a reasonable offer to make for both? They are in southeast Idaho.

Thanks for any suggestions,
Myron

I'd be less worried about the wiring modifications done by the cows, and more concerned about the fact that these machines were parked outside. Do the engines even turn over?

I'm a geezer with not a whole lot of value experience. I bought 960 earlier this year just as a project to putter with. I
like the looks of the row crop tractors, but getting on and off them is a challenge for a fat old man with bad joints.
From what I know there isn't a lot of difference between the 960 and 961. In Indiana the wide front end seems to sell at
higher prices. The early 960's had a one piece pedestal on the front end, so was a narrow front only. The later 960's
were changed to a two piece pedestal which could be used either with a wide or narrow front.

If you are interested in have a more valuable tractor, a wide front end tractor would be the answer. However, you MIGHT
be money ahead if you sold the wide front end to someone who was willing to pay for it.

Power steering is nice, especially on a wide front end with a loader. The Eaton power steering pumps used on those
tractors are getting old on those tractors and rebuilding the pumps and/or cylinders can be expensive.

Since the engines both turn, I might try to get both of them running before deciding whether to use parts from one on the other or vice versa, or whether to go ahead and make both of them good working tractors. There's nothing more special or desirable of one over the other except for any persons preference for a narrow front vs. a wide front, unless one might have power steering and the other does not. Since they do not run, I wouldn't give much more than scrap price for them just in case.

I've run a square baler with a 900 and
a 901. Couldn't tell the difference. I
have a narrow front 900 with power
steering, and a narrow front 901 with
out, almost no difference in the way
they drive, just easy to turn steering
when sitting still with the PS. My 900
wide front has no power steering, it
drives as good as either of the narrow
front tractors. If you can buy them
both, see which one runs better and
sell the other as a runner. By the
way, we all love pictures!

Guy came to the house to buy some
Farmall parts. He saw the 901 in the
barn and asked if I wanted to sell it,
I said no. He says what's the I don't
want to sell it price?? I threw out a
crazy number, he counted out 100 dollar
bills, I almost threw up! Oh well

Both would be desirable, if they both turn over I would fix up both.

Id prefer the wide front, unless I needed the narrow front for a picker, loader, or other tight turning/ space need.

Wouldnt care much xx0 or xx1 model between those 2.
