Split the 2000 3cyl this morning, what to do while split

I ended up splitting the 2000 3cyl this morning to sort out a non-working PTO. Only the 10 spline hub was operational. The 29 spline clutch hub was no longer attached to anything. The rivets had sheared off where they were connected to clutch material.

The question is, what else should I fix while it is split? I read somewhere that replacing the freeze plugs may be a good idea and also some seals. Are the seals the engine rear main and the transmission input shaft?

Thank you.

Clutch release (throwout bearing) would be on my agenda along with checking the teeth of the ring gear where the starter contacs the flywheel. Input shaft seals in the tranny might have a look at too.

Glad you found it.

I would resurface the flywheel, pull the front retainer off the transmission and replace the seals and gasket. If the starter ring gear had any damage replace it.

Part numbers on the last 2000 I did a 1970

E5NN6701BA rear main oil seal

S.65087 (GASKET REAR SPACER PLATE TO ENGINE REAR MAIN SEAL C7NN6N008B)

S.66139 (FRONT TRANSMISSION BEARING RETAINER GASKET C5NN7N051B)

S.65914 (input PTO seal)

957E727A (INPUT SHAFT SEAL MAIN TRANSMISSION) I got it off amazon at that time no one else had it are cheaper and available.
I had to source the CLUTCH DISC, clutch assemble and bearings from different places (during the big C event when the left censored the C word)

I did not go after the rear welch plug if it leaks I will go get it then : ) Tell you the truth I am not a big fan of going after a dry rear main seal. If its a brown seal I never seen one leak if its a black seal they were built to leak. Brown seals do not harden up like a black seal does YMMV...

The flywheel is a step flywheel. If rebuilding clutch assembly you will need to use flywheel to dissemble it and reset adjustments when reassembling. Use new trans disc.

Thanks all for the input. Really great to be able to access experienced folks in the middle of a project.
I bought a parts manual but listing the part numbers was especially a time saver.

If I remember correctly when I did an inframe on my '65 3 cyl, 3000 the rear main seal was accessed via the oil pan which had
nothing to do with a/the split.

Noel Putman ,Also replace the pilot bearing along with the throw out bearing and transmission front seal, grease throw out bearing shaft and check clutch shaft bushings. Check starter ring gear for worn teeth.Reface the flywheel.

The clutch in this tractor looks new, and the rear main seal looks new. However, the PTO clutch has the splines torn off the center and the center is separated from its clutch discs. The throw out bearing looks new, and higher quality than the one I got with the replacement clutch. I plan on replacing the pilot bearing.

Would it be a bad thing to not replace the throw out bearing?

What would do that kind of damage to a PTO clutch?

Thank you.
