Ford 2000 hydraulic adapter plate leaking

I have added a double spool hydraulic control valve to my Ford 2000 by installing a hydraulic adapter plate. When I tested the system I found that hydraulic fluid was leaking (very small leak) from the interface between the lift cover and the bottom of the adapter plate. I have disassembled the stack and cleaned everything thoroughly. All of the o rings are new. Before I put it back together, if anyone has experience with this process I would very much appreciate any guidance. Thanks.

Did you use grease to hold the o-rings in place when you installed the valve assembly?

Did you use a good straight edge to make sure that both surfaces are true and flat?

I did not use grease on the o rings, but I will when I
reassemble. The best straight edge that I have shows that
the mating surfaces are flat.
