Ford 335 industrial tractor injection pump clearance

Good day fellow forum members. Spent all day today installing a new injection pump for my old Ford 335 and I seem to have run into a snag. To gain clearance when removing the old injection pump I remove the starter in order to get the injection pump out. Spent the day installing the new pump making sure all timing was set back to it was when I took the old pump off. Now that I have everything back together I go to put the starter back on and now I am short about a quarter of an inch clearance for the starter to fit flush due to it hitting the new injection pump. Has anyone else ran into this situation? If so are there any tricks to get around this situation?

Should have left the starter on, it does NOT need removed for injection pump remove/replacing. Injection pump drive hub is MUCH shorter than the starter drive
nose end is.

Unless that new pump is longer than the old one (which I doubt), the starter should slip right in. The
clearance is tight, but I've never had one fight me.

Why did it take all day to install and time the new pump? It should be a rotary pump which self-times during installation due to the dowel on the front that can only mesh with the timing gear one way. After installation it should only be a matter of lining up the external marks to where they were before and tightening things down.

It just so happen to be one of those days. Lol
Working around the bucket support arms made everything tight and having a bum shoulder and back doesn t help either. Had one bolt hole that the threads that had to be retapped. It is quite possible that by the time I got to the starter I was just done physically. I just need to find a 1/4" of wiggle room somewhere I guess.
