Ford 641 Rear Axle Housing Gasket

I developed an oil leak where the left rear axle housing mates with the center casting. Figured it would be a simple fix and purchased new gaskets from YT. Having issues getting the gasket to fit, seems like the ID of the gasket is too small, and the bolt holes are not lining up. Has anyone experienced this problem before? Everywhere claims the gasket should be 12 15/16" ID x 15" OD, yet looking at my castings I think I would need a 13 1/4" ID X 15 1/4" OD gasket to fit.

Anyone see issues with resorting to silicon to create a gasket to seal? I assume it might mess of the axle end play and need to be re-shimmed.

Serial number on the tractor is 1620, which my research puts it as one of the first 641's off the assembly line in 1957. I'm wondering if I've got some non-standard axle housings as the castings don't match my parts manual.

Appreciate the help,

-David

I am not gonna say I soak it in water I do dab at them with a wet rag. I recon you could use a spry bottle and do the same thang.

Do you have correct gasket? Be advised that 6** housings are smaller than 8** housings.

Inspect housing closely at point of leak. Might find crack at stud. Not uncommon.

Soak gasket ini warm water before assembly.

No need to remove trumpet entirely. Simply cut gasket at top to fit around axle and seal at cut (or entire gasket) with thin layer of silicon gaslet maker. No need to worry about thickness of silicon vis
a vis axle end play.

Yep, Gasket is correct. While I was in the rear end I replaced the Differential Carrier Bearings and fixed my PTO, so it wasn't a big deal to pull the trumpets completely off. I did the soak in water and it stretched enough to fit over the studs I'll put a coat of gasket sealant over everything and start reassembly. Appreciate the replays from all
