Electrical wiring harness on a Ford 600

I have a Ford 600 rebuild going back together....I never had this tractor running before but the engine would fire on ether when I first rec'd it so I trust that the electrical system was functional. .

I removed the wiring harness a while back and have good pictures and sketches of what terminals go where....I do have a question about the key and light switch.

Is it expected to have an ignition key such that is would be turned by the operator with a right hand? This switch is broken so I think anything will work, even a toggle switch as I think it just lets current through.

There is another switch at the left hand, but I think that would be lights....even though no wires go to it at this time.

Does this sound right? I've got quite a cobble mess but if the system works then I'd rather not buy a new harness at this time. Thanks in advance, moday

Is this tractor still 6 volt or has it been converted to 12? Originally the key should be at your left hand & the lights at your right.

(quoted from post at 08:46:17 07/15/22) I have a Ford 600 rebuild going back together...

I've got a 640 and an 851. Both have had wiring issues, so recently I set about figuring out how to build my own wiring harness. The electrical system is pretty simple, so, I just tried to find as much info as possible and use any available wiring diagrams to make my own wiring diagram. I used mostly 12 AWG wire. 8 AWG for the alternator wire.

I modified my wiring harness to use a 1-wire alternator and four post solenoid. The diagram in the above posting uses a three-post solenoid. I have not installed anything but the starting-charging circuit. The remainder is pretty much just hook up wires from power to fixture

I have two questions about the wiring schematic....I agree it's not too difficult to follow but I still have these two things on my mind.

1) what exactly is the terminal block? I've seen pictures of a block on 8N's but I have a Ford 640, is that actually a block or thing that should be between the ignition and the coil or is it maybe buried in the electrical harness?

2) Regulator - this is strictly working with the generator by the schematic. So does this provide the current for the coil to make spark? I'm not exactly sure what the A, F and B are all about? Armature, Field and Battery maybe? DOes the battery only supply starting voltage/current and a functioning generator keeps things running?

thanks in advance, Moday

lock is the two terminal black device just above & side of regulator. Armature, Field, Battery and reg acts as controlled of voltage and current used to charge battery and to disconnect battery from armature when generator voltage drops too low to charge battery, as when you shut down engine, etc. Battery powers all and gen/reg keeps battery charged. Black 2 terminal block on the NAA. yours similar. Just a way/place to splice wires together

I will look tonight...thanks for the picture but I really don't think that I have that black terminal block. I wonder if it's in the harness for a Ford 600?

found it for 600 in CaseNewHolland parts book # 8NNN14448A for $30.75! Me, I wouldn't pay that. If can't find a 2 terminal piece of plastic at auto part store, I would use a crimp style connector to connect the wires normally connected at each terminal. On second thought, I would probably skip the parts store look-see and pull out crimper & sleeves.

This is making sense now....I see the holes in the metal next to the regulator where a terminal block would have gone. For whatever reason, this didn't have one and it seems like the wire harness has some splices in place. These pics are from when I took it apart. I will put it back together and see if it works before I go too far. I was thinking about the current path, I have a lot of painted parts and since most of this works through the tractor as current travel, I will clean the paint away wherever I have a wire being tightened in place.

thanks, moday
