63 4000 hyd remote valve

My latest 4000 has me scratching my head. I have a single acting loader on this tractor and have the valve set for one way cylinders. The problem is that it seems to bleed down while it's parked and takes for ever to start to raise the loader the first time after starting it up. The 3pt goes right up starting tho. It's fine after that. The other thing is if I shut the tractor off with the bucket in the air it will not let me lower it to the ground unless I bump the starter. The biggest problem is if I pickup a decent load it will not go back down until I change the adjustment screw to double acting, then it drops like a rock. I have several of the same vintage of Ford's and haven't had this scenario before. Sorry for long post but I can't figure this out!!

That is a detented, load check valve. In other words, unless oil is moving (engine running) nothing will happen. Apparently it has a bad o-ring or two. Normally a loader hooked to that valve will stay in one position forever!! That said, that valve is far from bring ideal for a loader. You're either up, down, or holding, no in between. A nice valve for pull behind cylinders though!. There is a parts break down of the valve in the 53-59 master parts book

Thank you for the information!! That does explain a few things. Like why it's so hard to control the loader coming down, it kind of bounces as I try to lower it. I just put this loader on this tractor last fall after it had been on my dad's 4000 for the last 50+ years but that tractor has the non detent double valve on it. I guess I need to get off my butt and make me some handles for my other double valve that I picked up at an auction. I don't know what shape it's in and don't really need a double on this tractor but I need to find out if it's any good any way.

Properly set up this valve should lift from the front port with the lever back, and drop with the lever forward which will pressurize the back port until you open the little t-handle which will make it a one-way operation, which I think would make the loader operate better. Your posts have always intrigued me since I stole my bride from your state (York county) 65 tears ago~!!

I have similar problems with the remote hyd valve on my 4000. I can't find any instructions for setting up this valve in my operator's manual. What is the proper way to set up this valve for one-way or double ports?
