801 series distributor assembly

My 841 once again died while I was trying to warm it up. Having just come off a condenser failure, I immediately replaced it, no change.
Then I discovered that the primary conductor broke off near the wall of the distributor. I disassembled the connections and attempted to use a 16ga solid copper wire with crimp on connectors in its place. It didn't work, but I might've trashed a (washer) that was between the copper connector and the side of the distributor.

1. Does someone have a good diagram of this distributor (311185)?
2. What is this square shaped (washer) made of? I see it in the image for the Distributor Power Inlet Screw Kit for sale on this site. Would cork work?
3. Should a copper wire with crimped connectors work? Or is there special magic in the wide copper connector strip? (magic = conducting surface area, I'm no dummy)

Thank you for your help!

Solid wire would cause problem due to it making the advance not be able to move as it should. Stranded wire does how ever work

No kidding. The conductor is somehow flexing in there?

The more you learn, the more you realize you don't know.

Thanks old!

The conductor is somehow flexing in there?" No.

You could remove the feed-thru screw and simply run the wire thru the hole and be done , as was done here on an N tractor.

Why exactly wouldn't a solid wire work?
t would, but might not tolerate vibration as well as stranded. The guy that cautioned about solid wire interfering with advance was obviously not thinking about your tractor distributor, but something like
'50s-'60s Chevy inline 6 where vacuum advance rotated the entire distributor body.
