Ford 1900 clutch strange problem?

My brother just called me, he has a little 1900 4x4 diesel tractor.... he got on it, pushed the clutch down, started it up and the clutch pedal stayed on the floor. He can shift it into any gear, but the clutch pedal wont return up and the clutch will not engage. He said the pedal is free, you can pull it up and let it go, it falls to the floor.

He says he can start it, put it in any gear he wants, and it does nothing. (as if one has their foot on the clutch). I dunno what to tell him, thats sounds really odd.

Any idea what the heck is going on?

I don't know what happened, but it sounds to me like a split is in the near future for that machine. The fact that it won't move tells me something went haywire inside.

I believe the 1900 had big rubber plugs on the side of the bellhousing. You might be able to pull one or both off and take a peek inside.

My guess is the release bearing return spring broke or the pins that hold the fork to the cross shaft sheared.
As Bern says, time for a split.
As far as the clutch disc disengagement, possibly the fork, fork block jammed up against the release bearing as a part of the whole failure.
Just speculation without a visual.

I can understand how broken fork returns or pins or pedal shafts ect would make the pedal go limp like that BUT... what could be keeping the clutch disengaged? The throwout bearing on the fork has to be pushed into the fingers on the clutch to do that. What could be keeping the fork jammed forward into the clutch that hard that it keeps the clutch off the plate?

There is no noise at all while its running, no grinding when you shift the gears....no rattling of broken bits in the trans. Is as quiet as if you stepped on the clutch in a perfectly normal trans.

Il tell em about the possible inspection ports... I can run an inspection camera in there and look around.
