I'm looking for the correct way to wire my
tractor to the ammeter. It's all 12 volt
positive ground. Installed 12 volt
generator. Trying to see why the generator
is not charging the battery. Any ideas or
is there a wire missing? I'm trying to
finish what the previous owner started.
There's no terminal block either.

Thank for your help

I have a 604 that I am parting out for my NAA. It has a 12v system. I'll take a look at it's wiring to see if that would help.

Ford's 12 volt systems went negative ground. You may have to re-polarize the generator if you want to stay positive ground. Can't help on the ammeter as my 601 has a charge indicator light.

The generator is putting out 15-16 volts so I know it's working. I'll just have to figure out on switching the system to negative ground. I have an ammeter and generator light which both are disconnected from previous owner.

mmeter added......this diageam is POS ground. "res" is typo & should read "red"

Sorry my friend, but I can't get any pictures that would do you any good without taking it all apart. Hope the wiring diagram helps you that was sent.

Yes it should. The previous owner cut all
the wires off the gauges cause I believe
they were 6 volt and not 12 volt. Looks
like I'll be updating my gauges also.

Thanks for your help

I attached a picture of the way my
solenoid relay is wired. The yellow wire
is to the negative battery side then to I
think is an I on the relay there is no
yellow wire from the Bat on the
regulator to relay. Also has a push button
also attached to the relay and an on/off
toggle switch to the battery and coil to
start the tractor. So I can assume that
the + side of the ammeter goes to the B
on the relay and the - side goes to the
I on the relay? I don't wanna sound
stupid but I also don't wanna burn
anything up in the process. I'm just
trying to fix a little wiring mess.

you say "yellow to neg batt side, so it looks like you are still POS ground....correct?
The two small terminal wires.....where to & from and also where do the wires go from other side of those "to/from" devices? Other ends of wires from toggle and push button switches? Where are those connected?

Yes for positive ground. The push button
are the 2 wires attached to the relay. The
toggle switch is attached to the negative
terminal and negative side of the coil
it's like a kill switch turn on tractor
starts off tractor won't start. Little
yellow wire I have no idea unless it's a
jumper.

ummm...., truly ba_tar_ized wiring.! Yes, it should start and run with that, but wrong solenoid for using the gear shift safety neutral start switch. You can't use that solenoid with the safety start switch . Yes, the yellow wire is a jumper & it is really only serving as a tie point to connect battery to start button.

Yeah the shift starter button looks like
it has been disconnected for one reason or
another. The ammeter by the diagram you
sent me the - goes to Bat on the regulator
and the + goes to the I on the relay?
I'm trying to see if the 12 volt generator
is charging the battery.

es, that should produce a positive needle deflection when charging. Lights or ign loads should deflect negative needle. If it does by some fluke of meter markings deflect negative upon generator output, just reverse the connections.
