Ford 5000 with the integral power steering setup. I am disassembling the steering gear to replace seal on the locating peg. I have it torn down to the nut and piston assembly but cannot figure out how to remove it from the main housing. Any suggestions?

That is the first thing that I did before taking apart the column. The piston was able to move easily to center the shaft arm to remove. Now when everything is removed down to the piston it does not want to come out nor does it move.

I don't have the right words for this but if you are working with the worm gear and the individual balls used for bearings, ensure that you know where they are and don't force anything if it doesn't want to go together....like you have a gap that won't close.....reason being may be a ball has dropped out of position and is causing your problem.....

$2,000 later on a new steering box I learned my lesson! Mine was on a 4610. My first experience with a steering box. I had a seal leak whereby PS fluid was coming out from under the steering wheel and I thought I could handle the repair....with a file cabinet full of manuals on Fords but no comments on what I said.

Looking at the bright side, he could order and get the box and I solved my problem.
