Can you put the Sherman drive from a 8n into a 4 speed 2000 old style.Ford. I realize that you will have to drill hole for. Shifter ?

.

A 4 cylinder 2000 should have a fine spline input shaft, so no, it will not be a direct swap. I'm not even sure it would fit on an earlier coarse spline '55-'64 4 speed.

Actually, I think you can.
The input shaft for the early 9/2Ns used straight spur gears on the back end whereas the late 2/8Ns and onward used helical gears.
Other than that I think the same 4 bolt front bearing retainer - which bolts the sherman to the transmission is the same in all of them.
The spline count would be determined by the clutch disc. So you could probably get a disc to match the splines.
Kirk NJ would probably know for sure.

It will not work! The flywheel has been designed different, some what thicker, after SN14257 on XX1 series 4 speed tractor and 2000 and 4000 series 4 cylinder tractors. You will need the 15 splined sherman for your 2000.

No won't work unless you change the input shaft and nose cone to the later style fine spline shaft. Might be possible to get someone to trade you what you need or buy what you need outright from someone who parts out shermans.

Can't just change out the clutch disc cause the flywheel was a different thickness which is one of the reason the the left brake rod was move out of the bellhousing to under the rear center housing. It might be possible if you change out the flywheel/clutch plate and disc to earlier course spine. Might have to change the engine plate also but can't say for sure cause I've never done it cause I've always had sherman parts I've needed.
