Ford 800 loses power

Ford 800 loses power while working with it. Starts up and runs great after about 30 minutes to an hour it loses all power . It still is running but no power at all. I turn it off wait about 30 minutes to an hr. Runs great with full power. After around 30 minutes to an hour again it looses all power again. It does this over and over.

Sounds like the coil is going bad. Spark gets too weak when the coil gets warm/hot. It will only get worse, allowing the tractor to run for shorter and shorter amounts of time until it will no longer start at all.

Ok I get what you're saying. But the tractor sits there idleing smoothly and no misfireing. Could that still be the coil ?

I agree with Sean in PA. Chased a similar problem for part of a summer. My didn't lose all power but just seemed a little puny for a while then it got steadily worse. New coil and it was right back where it should have been.

Could well be the difficult to diagnose but not uncommon Ford tractor ignition switch gremlin.

Short out the ignition switch with a jumper wire upon next usage. If the problem goes away, replace the ignition switch.

Do yourself a favor and use a Restoration Quality ignition switch from DC. If you use a cheap Chinese made switch, the problem will eventually return.

As soon as it looses power check that you have a good blue/white spark that jumps a 1/4 inch gap or more. Next carefully remove the gas cap and make sure the gas isn't boiling. Next shut it down and make sure you have a good steady flow of gas that will fill a pint jar in less then 3 minutes and 2 is even better

Ordered a coil will try that first.

After reading your post it hit that I once had a 64 Chevrolet that vapor lock but it would completely die until it cooled off. But maybe not completely vapor locking. Ill definitely give it a try.

We live in a very rural area called around no one has one in stock. So I had them order one. Were so far out we don't have cell phone reception or 911 service. Once had to call sheriffs office. They asked for directions here. Not joking

Ozarkrick,

you were given idea's of items to check and what it might be. The best approach when given idea's of what might be the problem is to use that info and diagnose whether the part is good or bad. Just replacing parts without diagnosing can cause frustration, waste of money, and possibly introduce new problems.

Going by your handle you live someplace in the Ozarks which means MO. or AR. So where you at?? Also going by your handle your name is Richard right?? I too live in the Ozarks the Lake of the Ozarks area
