Does a 4500 have a float function?

Picked up a 4500 a few months back and have been busy learning things as this is my first piece of heavy equipment. One thing that
would be really useful for my projects is a float function. I thought this endeavor would be some sort of aftermarket accessory or
DIY cobbling but I came across a post mentioning float and auto-leveling on the 4500. Where would these be? My FEL controls are 2
levers on the right hand side. Pictures would be lovely if you have them.

I am pretty sure that self-leveling was an option, so not all of them had that feature. From the parts diagrams, it looks like they all should have had the float feature. Look on the backside of the control valve, opposite the side where the levers are attached. There should be two caps sticking out of that side, and the longer cap should be the spool that has the float function. To utilize the float function, just move the lever past the normal lowering position and it should click past a detente into the float position.

Float is a position of the lift arms valve. If you push the lever fully forward, past the powered lowering position it should snap into a detent, and stay there if you let go of the lever. That is float position. It holds the spool in a position where the oil is not blocked to either side of the lift cylinders, so the lift frame is free to float with the contour of the surface the bucket is on.

Self-leveling is a built in design of the bucket linkage and/or hydraulics. It means the bucket will maintain the same angle as you lift and lower it.

Auto leveling on a 4500 is a separate valve on the side of the loader valve, when the knob is pulled out it diverts some of the lift oil the to bucks cylinders to keep it level, pushing the knob in turns off auto level
I may have the knob positions backwards but that's how it works, if there isn't a valve with a black knob sticking out to the side of the loader valve it doesn't have the optional auto level feature.

Ford called it a diverter valve

I've got an early 4500 with no float function. I agree it would be handy to have. I may investigate acquiring another valve if most of them have it.

Look it up on Ford tractor parts for a 740 loader, when you see the piping it takes to plumb the valve up youll change you mind

Are you talking about the self-leveling function, or float? Adding float should be as simple as replacing the control valve.

Self leveling, my 4500 had it.

Thats what that is? Mine is seized up tight. I got curious and tried to do a quick delete, but then the right side cylinders dont work. Its always good to learn something new every day.
