I had a 5000 with the steel grill that was supposed to be a 68 model and I do know it had a different engine that the bit newer 5000 with the plastic grill and with that 8 speed transmission. I had the garage replace my PTO but what I go not knoe is if the newer and older modeld if that PTO is same or not. Might make a difference in how to work on it. Also had 4000 in a 65 and a 68 and they were a lot different tractor.

Thank you for the Help
I am not sure what year the tractor is. Great grand dad left the farm in 1969 and it was his at the time.

Move the pto control lever forward to get the inside pawl back enough to clear the control valve.

Just a heads up but someone had been forceful enough on our old 5000 to slightly bend the roll pin that holds the handle onto the pin that goes thru the housing, it was just enough that the inside pawl wouldn't reach the detent and keep the lever in the on position
When ever you engaged the pto and turned loose of the lever it would drop back turning the pto off, new roll pin fixed it

It's been a few years since we repaired the pto in that 5000 but I'm thinking the pin goes in a hole in the valve below the brake spring hole, that would raise the valve up to where it needs to be

Check it out
