I have my dads tractor he bought in early 1960's. After a couple years the trans went out while turning a creek bottom. Ford Dealer in Franklin Tn where he purchased and did all his business came and took it to there shop and installed a newer trans without coasting gears. This trans has ran without any problem until today. I parked it in the shed after hauling a cattle mineral tub and salt block.
Moving the lever to park and it just was free and no changing of gears. This tractor is used for raking hay and turning gardens and some light bush hogging. What do i need to look for and how to repair.

Thank for any info

Does pto turn? Can you feel it change engine speed when shifting 4th to 5th? If none of these happen the torque limiter disc has broken rivets in hub or splines in hub and or input shaft have worn out.

When you moved the lever to put it in park did the tractor remain in the same gear it was already in? Does the pto still work? My guess is you either stripped the splines off the input shaft, the rivets in the clutch broke, or your shift cable broke.

Might be the hook coupling where the long shift cable connects to the short cable down wehre it goes into the transmission. Lucky for me it was the short cable and I found one on flea-bay. Also could be right at the shifter as in the nut came loose allowing the handle to move without turning the wheel/cable. I would look there first because that would be the easiest and cheapest.
