1967 Ford 2000 Remote Hydraulic Leak

Hey folks - relatively new owner here. I just purchased and installed a single spool hydraulic remote in front of the seat to be used as a top link adjuster. The installation went smoothly, however noticed that there's at least one tiny leak where the control unit mounts to the chassis. When the tractor is running I can see a bubble on occasion.

I suspect maybe a spec of dust (I was careful to clean the mounting area after removing the old cover, but perhaps not careful enough), however wanted to ask and find out from more seasoned hydraulic folks if there's any other possibilities. Perhaps the bolts aren't at the right torque? (Didn't want to over tighten them either)

I'll hopefully have removed and cleaned up all connection points again this evening. Hopefully that helps, but if anyone has any other thoughts on things to check, I'd appreciate it.

Best Regards

Is the leak where the body of the valve bolts to the top cover? How did you keep the o-rings in place? If an o-ring moved it might have gotten pinched.

Yes that's correct - the leak appears to be where the body meets the cover. The o-rings were already installed and appeared to be well-set, but I'll take it off and
inspect it carefully to make sure that's not the case.

Thanks much for your help!

I'll post an update as soon as I can.

You should use new o-rings every time that you remove the original blocking plate or remote valve. My bet is that one of those original o-rings is leaking due to age. Use grease to hold the new o-rings in place as you put the remote valve back on.

Sorry for any misunderstanding, most likely on my part. When you said "The o-rings were already installed and appeared to be well-set" I thought that you were referring to the old o-rings.

Well, tried again by removing the control valve, cleaning the mating surfaces and re-seating. I checked the O-rings while placing the control valve to make sure there was no pinching. Problem still exists where oil is leaking where the two surfaces come together while the tractor is running.

2 questions for the group:

1) Does anyone know the effective torque needed for the bolts? I don't want to overtighten but that may mean I'm not supplying enough.
2) Should the mating surfaces be oil-free when installing, or does that matter at all? I was having trouble keeping hydraulic oil off of the surfaces when re-attaching the valve.
