Ford 3000 appears to be stuck in draft mode

I tried all the easy stuff, changed fluid, bleed the pump Tractor will not hold a bush hog in position mode. It will pick it up quickly and firmly. Then if you try to keep your mower an inch or 2 off the ground, it wont do it. If you move the lever to half way, it goes all the way down?
Any thoughts?
Thanks

an't learn much without digging in. Probably out of adjustment & very likely due to worn parts.

From your symptoms it sound like your Position Control follower pin that works on a cam on the lift arm centre is worn or missing. The top has to come off to replace it.

The pin is between the two springs in the picture. The cam will not be worn, just the pin.

I havent torn into it yet, but I have kinda the same thing going on with a 641. If (while in modern view) you search for 641 3PT Control, you can see a discussion from January, with several pictures and parts book drawings.

have seen this where the draft spring behind the seat was too loose and out of adjustment.. the littlest pressure on it would make it lift or fall.

Okay, let me ask this. When I move the lever from position to draft, I can feel pressure and it does click like it did move internally. It is still possible it could be worn on the inside even though it feels like it is switched?

hen you move the Draft/Position mode lever from Position to Draft, you are applying force in compressing a spring and when moving it from Draft to Position the spring is being released and actually assists you in moving the mode lever.

As JMOR says, you are compressing springs as shown in the picture. Selecting Position control moves the pin onto the cam as in the picture. There is little lubrication in the area of the cam and pin so the pin wears when you use Position control and if you constantly use Position rather than Draft, the pin has a limited life.

When it wears you get the exact symptoms you ask about.
