SOS to 5 speed rear axle swap

Search engine doesn't work for me any more. Does anyone know if the rear axle splines are different when doing SOS to 5 speed swap or do they just bolt up. We did one years ago and had to make a coupler but it could have been a coarse to fine spline swap. Any help appreciated.

I done a 4 speed to 5 speed couple years ago. 4 speed was fine 5 speed coarse , 5 speed coupler is very short. I used 5 speed pinion and diff so would be matched set. SOS is fine spline.

My memory my be failing me as I get older, but I thought that the switch over from coarse to fine splines was done on a certain date or serial number, regardless of which transmission the tractor had, so there would be tractors of any transmission type with both coarse and fine splines depending on when they were made.

Well, I just split this 4 speed tranny tractor and it has the fine splines. When I take out the SOS I'll know for sure. I'll post back when I get it done. Maybe i'll just have an extra rearend now. Anyone looking for some SOS parts? Emails open, I think.

As has been already said the sos is fine spline. If you have a five speed to put in it and it is coarse all you have to do to change it is grab hold of the output shaft and pull it out. Then get a fine spline output shaft slide it back in. A four speed is different to change the output shaft you have to take the transmission apart. I have done both.
