I was recently helped by a number of you with clutch issues on a 640. Thank you. I have since put in a new kit with pilot bearing, clutch, pressure plate and release bearing. The issue I am having is that the release bearing does not come forward far enough to reach the fingers on the pressure plate. I remember another post some time ago by someone with the same issue. There was a response recommending washers be put behind the pressure plate to move it out further. Of course longer bolts would be needed. Does this sound like a sensible solution? It was stated that many of the plates made today are not as thick as the old ones. Any words of wisdom will be appreciated.

Did you check the new part against the old part? Sometimes can be adjusted with pedal rod. I had one do that but can't remember the problem. Do remember splitting again to fix it. don't know if your hood is on but you can see action down through the steering column if loosened and raised up. Parts man could have gicen you wrong pressure plate. I had one of the bolts break on the cheap chinese clutrch cover one time also.

Have you sufficiently adjusted the clutch pedal? I had to stamp on mine after replacing the clutch until I adjusted the pedal, now it works great.
