My first tractor project

18 months ago I bought my first tractor. It's a 1965 Ford 3000 gas 3 cyl with a ford 740 front end loader. Got it for $1200 which I though was a good deal considering it ran and drove and everything worked. Even though it was an ugly duckling. Well so far I have stripped it and repainted it. Put all new hydraulic hoses and fittings. New generator, new cap rotor and wires. New wiring harness, new water pump, new starter. Changed out the points to electronic ignition and added a higher voltage coil. Still got a ways to go but hopefully it will be back up and operating this year.

If you are new to the forum, you have to post five times before it will let you upload pix. Sounds like a fun project, and a lot more work than you
thought it would be. Everyone of mine has been. But they last forever when you take on fixing all the deferred maintenance.

Currently painting my 69 4000. Looking forward to seeing your pics.

Ahh. That's why the pics won't load. Lol. As soon as I get a chance I will upload. I'm doing a rebuild but also wanted to Purdy it up. Lol.

It's almost back together. Just got the
tank and hoods, dash, and nose to put back
on. Currently bending and flaring new gas
lines

Still won't show photos. 😕

Are you brush painting?
Painting over old layers or sanding?
What have you used to clean before painting?

Thank you. Looking good!

I'm using a wire brush and cleaning old loose stuff. Then I'm using engine cleaner to clean up old oil and grease. I then am reprising all surfaces with oil based rustoleum. I do 2 coats of that. After which I do 2 coats of color tractor paint. It's all being brushed on at 62⁰ in my garage. Once I brush first coat I raise heat to 67⁰. Next day I drop temp back to 62 then apply second coat after the temp has dropped fully. I find using this method leaves less brush strokes and the paint cures fully. I also removed almost all the accessories off it. As I'm replacing everything with new.

That shade of yellow looks perfect. Pick up a little more blue so that you can paint the starter and generator.
