68 5000 8 speed neutral switch and manuals

Just discovered my NEW 5000 safety switch has been jumped out. The service manuals imply that it should be an easy fix. It looks like I just need to pull the cover and swap switches. Anything I'm missing ?
I did invest in the complete set of service manuals but they leave me a bit confused. In some places they do say specifically for the "5000" in a lot of places, in particular, the transmission section, they have a section specifically for the Super Major 5000, but nothing specifically for the "5000" That is the case in other places as well. They have specific sections for Dexta's and Majors and Super Majors, but I rarely see a section specifically for "5000". Question is is the "Super Major 5000" the same as "5000". Is the information in the "Super Major 5000" sections the same for a "5000"?
Thanks
Alan

You have the wrong manuals, ones that cover Dexta, Super Dexta, Major, Super Major and 5000 Major are for the Fordson Models.
You need the ones that cover 2000, 3000, 4000, 5000 and 7000 models built 1965-75
Neutral safety switch for a 68 5000 should be under the shift cover and is the same switch used on the other models
The early 65-66 models had the switch mounted on top of the shift cover.

No.. the Manuals I have clearly states on them that they are for the Ford Tractor Series 2000 3000 4000 5000 7000 Service Manuals 1965-1975 and while they have sections for all of those Models, including specifications there are more mention of Dexta, Major and Super Major then there are on the models mentioned on the covers and binders...that why I am a bit confused. Volume 1 seems to be all 2000 3000 4000 5000 7000 but the other volumes seem to be a mix of all the models. There is no mention of Dexta, Major or Super Major on the covers or binders !! These are original manuals, a little dirty but not a copy of them so I believe what the covers and binders are saying. Thanks

When the 2000 thru 5000 was introduced in 65 the European models were labeled 2000 Dexta, 3000 Super Dexta, 4000 Major and 5000 Super Major, I've seen those labels on a few tractors in the US but not sure if they were imports or not.
This gave folks familiar with the Fordson line a way to compare the new models sizes
The confusing part is a Fordson Super Major was painted blue and gray, labeled Major 5000 and exported to the US.

The Fordson models only had 6 spd transmissions, the 65/up 5000 only had the standard 8 spd or select o speed

Have you disconnected the safety switch wires and ohmed them with a meter

Yes did that last night...no luck...seems they bypassed it cause its not working ...ugh...I guess I need to pull the cover. I hate doing that. As we all know, when you open things up you never know what your gonna find. I hope when I open it up nothing falls out/off.

It's dirt simple to do. Put both sticks in neutral and remove the cover. Don't move the shift forks inside the trans while the cover is off. There is a gasket you can get but I opted for sealant. My trans fluid looked like a milk shake so I changed it and flushed the trans with diesel. Takes about an hour depending on my much cleaning you do.
