6000 Original color

Bought a 6000, has been sitting in the same place for a LONG time, appears to have been origainally red with a really poor blue paint over. what recall did Ford have for the early red tractors and did the customer get to chose to repaint or not?

I have a copy of the re-work instructions for those tractors. Darn near every system on the tractor was re-worked on those machines, from the engine to the transmission to the rear axle. That had to have been a major embarrassment for Ford - what were they thinking releasing the 6000 so early without adequate testing, and so soon after the SOS debacle? There must have been something in the water back then.

I'm guessing that the factory did most of the re-works, although dealers did some as well. I would imagine that repainting was a requirement as well, although the instructions that I have do not speak to repainting. Possibly some owners convinced dealers to keep their machines red?

Many, many "red bellies" were repainted red after the blue ones came out in order to "update" them. Sometimes when this topic comes up someone posts a pic of a flyer from Ford with a clean up and repaint special offered at the time.

Where did you get that information about the updates, is there a place that those are readily available? Could I get copies from you, for a fee?

I got a copy of the re-work instructions from a fellow member here on YT many years ago. I forget his name or handle.

It's about 40 pages in length. I could scan and e-mail them to you if you supply me your address. No fee.
