Ford 4000 clutch issue?

Have a 73 4000 with the 8 speed hi low. Started loosing gears in high range. Tractor would just roll to a stop. Guessing its the clutch? Ive had it where you cant get it out of gear when the clutch goes.

Check and adjust free play if necessary before you do anything else. Free play is the amount you can push the pedal down with one finger (i.e. light pressure). If it's tight from the very top, that's the reason for the slipping.

Theres about 1 1/2 inches of free play in pedal before you can feel it grab the clutch. Figured it was like a dump truck clutch and shouldnt be completely tight. Just wanted to double check before I split the tractor.

Not sure what you mean by losing gears when in high range or the tractor just rolling to a stop. A slipping clutch is one thing and if it was slipping so bad you rolled to a stop the smoke and stink would make it obvious what it was. Does everything work fine in low range?
