stuck clutch

Ford 1715--gear drive--Clutch is stuck so I can't get it in gear without shutting it down. If I start it in gear, I can't stop without popping it out of gear or shutting down the engine. I've tried jabbing the
brakes as I'm driving but didn't break the clutch free. Tried driving it into a tree and no luck there either. I'm going to try removing the starter to see if I can do anything in thru the hole. Thinking about
boring a hole thru the bellhousing to access the clutchplate. Any ideas on how to free this clutch, I'd appreciate your help. thanks, gregjo1948

I'm remembering a rubber access plug on the bell housing in the middle of the 4 hole loader mounting pad?
maybe you can see in there and or get a thin bar in to pry on the clutch?

Are you pushing the clutch and jabbing the brakes while in high gear? I would need to do the math on the torque to explain why, but our 4000 clutch was frozen solid, until I tried the depress clutch/jab brakes trick while in high gear. Broke free immediately.

I'd try blocking the clutch pedal with a piece of wood and spray some brakekleen or other light solvent and leave it for a while. Then do the drive around and stab the brakes thing. I've done the up against a tree deal with success, it was a loud pop when it released.

Ah No You mentioned you have tried the braking while clutching trick, but did not mention the gear you were in. Big difference in the resulting torque at the clutch face, between a low gear, and a high gear. Im just speaking from experience.

I was able to free up the clutch on my NAA by spraying vinegar on it through the starter housing. Rust doesn't like vinegar. However it was just a temporary fix. I ended up replacing the clutch.

Seems to be a common problem right now. THe same problem on the Case site. And my brother had the same problem with a ferguson to-30. If you don't have a hole near the clutch, you can drill one large enough to put a wand in it to spray a solvent of some kind. When you are done, put some rubber sealant in the hole so you can pull it out and respray if it happens again.

I removed the front loader rear mounting bracket. That gives me access to a plugged hole thru the bellhousing about 1/1,25 diameter. I sprayed PB blaster in and hope that will free up the clutch disc from the flywheel.

If you sprayed PB Blaster on the clutch disc, if it breaks free you may find it slips due to friction contamination by the PB Blaster. Oil and dry friction materials don't play well together. Hope it works out for you and you don't have to do a split.

spraying with a cleaner could do it, however, if you use one that is corrosive, you could end up with a much worse problem. I was surprised to see how much rust developed overnight on a part that I sprayed with brake cleaner. Whatever you use, if it works be sure to clean it off afterwards by slipping the clutch.
