Hello all, new member with a 801 diesel. I had it overhauled and use it on a hobby farm. Its a good little tractor.

Currently Im having wiring issues. I changed from a generator to a one wire alternator. It was already a 12 volt system. Id like to rewire it as its giving me troubles. Glow plugs wont work and over the winter it stopped starting via the push button switch. Last year I replaced the soliniod closest to the starter, the one under the hood for the glow plugs was clicking, I tried to replace it, now Ive got nothing working. Any ideas of help would be greatly appreciated.

hey didn't come from factory with alternator, but you can merge these diagrams and probably come up with something useful.

Those diagrams will help, thank you. I think I need a new solenoid for the glow plugs. Im having trouble finding one.

Very helpful, thank you I believe I can make it work. I likely need to clean everything up for a better ground.

One problem you may be having is you are buying the wrong solenoid.
The proper solenoid is NAPA part number ST542 or BWD S103
Any parts house can cross these numbers to what they sell.
As you can see (first picture) the solenoid you are most likely buying grounds through the case.
The proper solenoid (second picture) grounds through the wire to the push switch.

To use this solenoid for the glow plugs you run a wire from the solenoid to the push switch in the dash.
From the other terminal on the push switch you run a wire to ground.

I use to have many differant wiring diagrams for the 801.
So many it kept confusing people on what one to use.
So I deleted all of them except the one JMOR has already posted.
You can use this one for the diesel just do not use the wires for the distributor and coil and add the wires for the block
heaters.

I have a write up I did years ago that explains every step of the 12 volt conversion and using a alternator.
If you search the archives with 12 volt conversion and my name I'm sure you can find it.
