Ford 3400 Camshaft to gear fit

Anyone run into this: Have a new Reliance cam for 158 gasser.
Shaft size is 1.253 for front cam gear. Oem shaft is 1.250. Talked to Reliance and they told me the shaft is speced at the 1.253. I think 3 thousands is way to much press fit. Looking for shaft with proper size and was wondering what others have done in this situation. As always thanks in advance.

I can't find a spec for that, but I don't think 3 thou is too much of a press fit myself. Put the gear in an oven at about 250 or so for an
hour and then tap it on with a small hammer. If it drops right on or goes on with very little force, then that's about perfect.

Just now getting back to this. I have tried 3 different manufactures cams and they all were oversize. Also the cam lobes were wider than the OEM cam. Has anyone run into this and if so how did you resolve it?. If anyone has a decent OEM cam I am interested in buying one. Thanks in advance.

Did you try heating the cam gear to see if it would fit that way like Bern said
As for the wider lobes Ford used a different cam in the gas engines originally with narrower lobes and a standard round lifter.
Diesel cams and all newer replacement cam have wide lobes for using the mushroom tappets that install from the bottom, this tappets also require the longer diesel pushrods
