Ford 3400 ID/ engine ID

I ended up getting a post (what I'm guessing) 1968 or 69 diesel Ford 3400, 8spd and pto (do not know if its live or not). Is there anyway of finding out what year this is beside the spot by the starter solenoid or hydraulic pump? The clevis for the clutch is a single hole (like on a 3 cylinder 4000), the clutch springs seem dead (the clutch pedal pops half up). At one point it seems like the motor might have been swapped (the air cleaner cover hole on the side of the hood, the engine is blue, but everything else with the oil pan is yellow), the injection pump has a lift pump on it (can't read the tag). The engine is stuck. The tag by the oil pan isn't stamped or has worn off. I'm going to take off the head tomorrow or the tractor will become parts.

It's got the hole in the left side hood panel for the dry air filter for a gas engine, so if it's got a diesel engine, either the engine or the hood has been swapped out at some point. If it was an early diesel it would have had an oil bath air filter. If it was a later diesel then it would have had the dry filter, but on the right side of the nose cone, not the left side of the hood panel.

Lift pump on the IP...
It is a Simms inline pump?
They used those on some 3000s - mostly
early ones I think. Pretty sure they never
used Simms pump on 158 ci 2000s or 201 ci
4000s.
That would help ID it as a 175 CI.

I just noticed another thing, it's got the canister style oil filter, so the engine is pre-11/69. There should be a date code for the casting date, which should be on the right side of the block up near the front, just above the oil pan.

Also, what is the large casting code on the right side of the block (CxNN6015xx)?

3400 was a bit of a odd ball as the diesel models had paper air filters with the opening on the left side of the grill shell, it was the only 3000 style model with that setup.

I had a 3500 a few years back. I believe it was a 66 with the louvered hood. Spin on oil filter and the air filter was the paper type in the right side near the nose

There should be some numbers stamped on the lower RH front flange of the engine block. Includes the date code.

This number?

C4023C is a 3400 with gas engine, live 540 pto and 8 spd trans
Basically a 3000 with a heavy duty front axle
Nice tractors, my brother has one, loader frame makes tuning the engine a royal pain on the gas models

The engines been changed, it has a 68 casting date and the canister oil filter was discontinued 11/69

Thank you, I just looked at the book and that is what figured. I might try to get the ending unstuck (probably try to pull it around untill the tires come off). I dumped some diesel down the cylinder for the heck of it. I'll pull the head off of it after I try dragging it (the clutch seems dead). I got for a parts tractor.

Just as a quick update, the motor was stuck a little. The motor is now unstuck and spins over nicely. Ended up forgetting about some nut from the squirrels so those got grinded up. I probably could have gotten it free with the starter. Taking the radiator was easy. Anyone happen to have pictures of both sides of the injection pump?
